German show jumpers to place nine frustrated - KICKE
The German show jumpers left the Baji Koen Equestrian Park with a bad mood. The hoped-for Olympic medal missed them clearly, only on Saturday after the task of Daniel Deßer only in place nine. The rider living in the Belgian Rijmenam ended the course after a refusal with Killer Queen prematurely.
"Of course we are disappointed, just because yesterday was good yesterday," said national coach Otto Becker in ZDF interview: "We had promised more." Gold secured the team from Sweden in stinging against the US team. Bronze secured Belgium with the German coach Peter Weinberg.
Thieme: "Had to be more flexible"
The German staringiter André Thieme with Chakaria began sure, but the ride of the 46-year-old from Plau am See became increasingly restless. On the third stage, the first pole fell, on the penultimate the second. With eight penalty points, Thieme rode with the eleven-year-old mare from the course. "It started great," Thieme said. "Unfortunately, we have previously made a plan, and I stayed with that - I would have to be more flexible." The second drop was "then a follow error". It does in suffering for "my team colleagues".
Better saw the subsequent ride of Maurice Tebbel with Don Diarado. But the 27-year-old from Emsbüren did not come without dropping through the course. With four penalty points Tebbel rode on the twelve-year stallion to the finish after 545 meters. "I'm disappointed," commented on the rider. There are "too many mistakes" of the German team.
Killer Queen denied - Deßer gives up
When Daniel Deßer Input, there was even a medal elevation. He looked so with Killer Queen sovereign, but after a drop and subsequent refusal, the 39-year-old was up. "It was the right decision that he has given up in the sense of the horse," said the national coach.
It does not use anything that it went over "a lot of love beautifully beautiful courses", as Becker expressed it. It is "again a really demanding number". The course is "heavy but fairly built".
After disappointing in the individual competition, the team of the German equestrian association was confiscated sovereign in the final, remained in the three rounds without dropping, but that did not count in the final, because it started at zero for all teams.
Debt British as the last
In the individual, the show jumpers had also remained without a medal. Deßer was ridden on Wednesday as best only rode 18.
The disappointments also included the British team for single-Olympic champion Ben Maher with explosion that no longer approached the weak rides of the first two couples of the team. Great Britain could not replace the second best rider with Scott Brash, whose horse has violated in Tokyo, and was still last Germany.
