Deb team moves prematurely to the World Cup
The German national ice hockey team moved into the quarter-finals prematurely at the World Cup in Finland. The selection of the German Ice Hockey Association (DEB) benefited from France 0: 3 (0: 1, 0: 1, 0: 1) defeat against Denmark. As a result, the team of national coach Toni Söderholm, with twelve points from five games, can no longer be displaced from the first four places in Group A before the last two group games.
Germany, which is in third place, had celebrated fourth success in the approximate 9: 4 on Friday against Italy and set the course for the knockout round. Previously, the DEB team had won 1-0 against Denmark, 3-2 against France and 2-1 against the Olympic stock Slovakia and lost 3: 5 against defending champion and record world champion Canada at the start.
In the last two preliminary round games against Kazakhstan (3:20 p.m.) and on Tuesday against Switzerland (11.20 a.m./both Sport1 and Magenta Sport), Germany wants to get a good starting point for the round of the last eight teams (from May 26). Last year, the DEB selection at the World Cup in Riga stormed to the semi-finals and ended fourth in the end.
Ideally, the German team reached the quarter -finals second. Then Germany would calibrate like Olympic champion Finland, who had qualified early for the K.O round on Friday in front of a home crowd, and can initially avoid the eleven-time world champion Sweden and can also stay at the current venue in Helsinki.
